The UK government has announced higher financial requirements for international students applying for a Student Visa from November 30, 2026.
Students from Pakistan, India and other countries will need to show more money for living expenses when applying under the new rules.
The changes were announced by the UK Home Office on September 3, 2026, and will affect students planning to study in the UK in 2027.
New UK Student Visa Financial Requirements
Students must prove they have enough money to support themselves during their studies.
The required amount depends on whether their university is located in London or another part of the UK.

How Much Bank Balance Will Students Need?

- Outside London: £10,827
Previously, students needed £13,761 for London and £10,539 for locations outside London.
These amounts cover living expenses only. Students must also have enough money for outstanding tuition fees shown on their Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS).
UK Student Visa 28-Day Bank Statement Rule
Students who must provide financial evidence generally need to keep the required funds in their bank account for at least 28 consecutive days.
The final day of that period must fall within 31 days before the visa application date.
For example, a student applying under the new London requirement may need to maintain £14,130 for living costs, plus any required tuition fees.
Students using eligible education loans or official financial sponsorship may provide different evidence.
Does the Change Affect Pakistani Students?
Yes. Pakistani students applying for a UK Student Visa on or after November 30, 2026, will normally need to meet the updated financial requirements unless an exemption applies.
Applications submitted before that date will be assessed under the earlier financial rules.
Students planning to study in the UK in January or September 2027 should calculate their finances carefully.
UK Student Visa Application Fee
The UK Student Visa application fee is currently £558.
Applicants may also need to pay the Immigration Health Surcharge, depending on their circumstances.
These charges are separate from the money students must show for living expenses.
