More than 7.5 million Pakistanis have received subsidized fuel under the Prime Minister’s Fuel Relief Scheme 2026, according to the latest figures shared with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
The scheme was launched in September to provide targeted support to people affected by higher fuel prices. It mainly covers eligible motorcycles, rickshaws, three-wheelers and cars with engines up to 800cc.
Over 8.4 Million People Registered
During a review meeting, officials informed the prime minister that more than 8.4 million people had registered for the programme.
Since the scheme’s launch on September 15, around 12.2 million fuel tokens have been issued, while approximately 10.3 million tokens have already been used. The programme is operating across 129 districts, with participating petrol stations providing the subsidy to eligible users.
A 24-hour call centre has also been established to assist citizens and petrol station operators.
How Much Fuel Relief Is Available?
The government originally approved relief at the equivalent of Rs100 per litre. Two- and three-wheelers were initially allocated Rs500 in weekly relief, while eligible cars up to 800cc could receive Rs1,000 relief every 10 days.
The government later relaxed some conditions for motorcycles, rickshaws and Qingqi vehicles. The five-litre purchase requirement was removed, allowing eligible users to use the Rs500 weekly token when buying smaller quantities of fuel.
For eligible cars up to 800cc, the arrangement remained a 10-litre token every 10 days, or three tokens per month.
Who Can Benefit?
The programme targets lower-income motorists using smaller vehicles. The government says the digital fuel-token system is designed to deliver support directly to eligible citizens and reduce misuse.
The scheme was initially approved with Rs75 billion in funding by the Economic Coordination Committee.
Officials say registration and implementation will continue, while citizens should follow official government instructions for eligibility and token-related updates.
