The Punjab government has launched a Rs5 billion Pink Salt Value Addition Financing Scheme to support businesses involved in Pakistan’s pink salt industry.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif launched the scheme and distributed financing cheques among 10 businesspeople. Under the programme, eligible businesses can receive interest-free financing of up to Rs50 million. The provincial government will cover the interest cost of the financing.
Who Can Benefit From the Scheme?
The programme is aimed at businesses working in pink salt processing and value addition. Young entrepreneurs and startups are also expected to receive support under the initiative.
The main goal is to encourage businesses to process, package and market Pakistani pink salt instead of relying mainly on raw salt exports. The government also wants locally produced pink salt products to reach international markets under Pakistani branding.
More Than 10,000 Jobs Expected
A 110-acre Pink Salt Processing Zone in Quaidabad is being developed as part of the wider initiative. The zone is planned to accommodate around 200 value-addition units and could create more than 10,000 employment opportunities.
Officials believe better processing, packaging and branding could help increase Pakistan’s annual pink salt exports by as much as $300 million.
The scheme is expected to provide new opportunities for businesses and entrepreneurs while helping Pakistan earn more from one of its well-known mineral resources.
