Pakistani students looking for a fully funded scholarship in the UK can now apply for the Commonwealth Scholarship Programme for the 2027-28 academic year.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) Pakistan is accepting applications from eligible Pakistani and AJ&K nationals for Master’s and PhD scholarships. Studies are expected to begin in the UK in September or October 2027.
How Many Scholarships Are Available?
According to HEC, Pakistan has 26 nominations for Master’s and 30 nominations for General PhD scholarships.
The programme covers study linked to six development themes, including science and technology, health systems, innovation and entrepreneurship, peace and governance, crisis resilience, and access and inclusion.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must be Pakistani or AJ&K nationals and permanent residents. Dual nationals are not eligible, while HEC states that there is no upper age limit.
For a Master’s scholarship, applicants need a first division in a relevant 16-year Bachelor’s degree. PhD applicants need a first division in a relevant 17/18-year Master’s, MS or MPhil qualification.
Applicants must also meet the separate eligibility requirements set by the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission.
HAT Test Requirement
HEC requires applicants to have a minimum HAT score of 60 out of 100. HAT-I, HAT-II, HAT-III and HAT-IV categories are accepted for nomination.
Candidates without a valid score can also check HEC’s announced HAT testing arrangements for this scholarship round.
What Does the Scholarship Cover?
The Commonwealth Scholarship is fully funded. CSC states that its awards can cover approved tuition fees, return airfare and a monthly living allowance.
For Commonwealth PhD Scholarships, the current stipend is £1,712 per month, rising to £2,000 per month for scholars at universities in the London metropolitan area. Other eligible study and travel support may also be provided.
Application Deadline
The deadline is October 20, 2026. CSC applications close at 4:00 PM BST, while HEC’s portal closes at 4:00 PM Pakistan Standard Time.
How to Apply
Pakistani applicants must complete two separate online applications:
- Apply through the Commonwealth Scholarship Commission’s online application system.
- Apply through the HEC Scholarship Portal under “Learning Opportunities Abroad.”
Submitting an application on only one portal is not enough for HEC nomination. Hard copies should not be sent unless HEC specifically requests them.
